City of Seattle, King County send letter to Port over arena deal

Seattle and King County are making their pitch to the Port of Seattle over the proposed SoDo arena, offering millions of dollars of road improvements to ease the Port’s concerns over traffic.
The Port is fighting the proposed arena because it believes it would add too much congestion and impact its ability to move freight.
Seattle mayor Mike McGinn and County executive Dow Constantine have sent a letter to the Port outlining 13 transportation improvements that would ease that congestion.
They include a new truck road from the Port to the rail yard, lane extensions, turn lanes and new signs.
The Seattle Times reports the letter doesn’t include any information on how the $25 million worth of improvements would be paid for.
The city and county say they hope the letter will spark a formal response from the Port on the arena deal.
