City of Seattle, yacht club compromise on bike path

Cyclists may feel the squeeze after the City of Seattle negotiated a compromise with boaters.
The City and Nautical Landing, a yacht club, were at odds over parking spaces near the marina. The City has planned for a bike path to pass in front of the club, but that would require some rearranging of parking. The yacht club didn’t like the sound of that and filed a lawsuit.

The Seattle Bike Blog reports the City avoided going to court and a deal was made with Nautical Landing.
The City owns parking spaces in front of the marina and proposed to turn them into angled parking to save space — to the chagrin of Nautical Landing. The angled spaces would knock out a couple spots.
The City and Nautical Landing compromised by turning the 10-foot path into an eight-foot path as it passes the yacht club. The parking spaces will be preserved.
The sidewalk for pedestrians will also be narrowed from eight feet to six feet.
The bike path is part of a $3.6 million project to create a more stable, and official, bike route along the west side of Lake Union.
