CleanScapes truck hits, drags woman in fatal hit-and-run

A garbage truck struck and killed a pedestrian on Seattle’s First Hill Thursday afternoon, dragging a woman nearly a block before leaving the scene.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman as 42-year-old Rebecca Scollard, of Seattle.
Recology CleanScapes confirmed on its website Friday morning that one of its trucks was involved in the incident. The company said it’s cooperating with investigators to help them gather what they need to determine the cause. It will not provide any more details.
“All of us at Recology Cleanscapes would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the pedestrian affected by this accident.”
Seattle police have not arrested the driver of the truck.
Officers were called to 8th Avenue and James Street around 3:30 p.m. Witnesses reported seeing the truck traveling westbound on James Street, and then hitting the woman walking between 9th and 8th avenues.
“We haven’t determined if there was any malice involved,” Seattle police Det. Drew Fowler said at the scene. “The driver may not have known if they struck anybody.”
Accident investigators are working to interview witnesses and locate nearby surveillance video that may have caught an image of the truck.
