Complaint filed against Sequim lawyer who made claims of widespread voter fraud

The Washington state Attorney General’s office has filed a complaint against a lawyer in Sequim for filing lawsuits alleging widespread voter fraud across the state, despite having no evidence.

Virginia Shogren, representing the Washington Election Integrity Coalition United, filed a suit against Gov. Jay Inslee alleging mass voter registration of noncitizens. The lawsuit was quickly dismissed by the state Supreme Court as having no legal merit and has since ordered Shogren to pay $28,000 in penalties for the ‘frivolous’ lawsuit.

This claim comes as a part of the unfounded right-wing idea, perpetuated by former President Donald Trump, that the 2020 presidential election of Joe Biden was done illegally and makes his presidency null and void.

The bar complaint filed by the AG’s office, and signed by the Solicitor General, Noah Purcell, accuses Shogren of using “the legal system to lend a veneer of credibility to baseless claims of election fraud.”

“Ms. Shogren advanced baseless claims to undermine confidence in Washington’s elections,” Purcell stated in his official complaint against Shogren. “The Washington Supreme Court Commissioner characterized the petition as ‘frivolous’… allegations of voter fraud with no basis in fact.”
