Construction crew blocking traffic in rush hour gets $250 citation

A construction crew on Denny Way is facing a $250 citation for working during rush hour.
KIRO 7 News asked City of Seattle officials about why a construction crew was working on Denny Way in the early evening on Monday.
The crew was holding up traffic around 6:50 p.m.
Seattle Department of Transportation says the work was not part of the Denny Way substation or Denny Network project. It was a Puget Sound Energy subcontractor.
They had a Traffic Control Plan (TCP) and permit, which allows them to do work from 7-10 p.m. and 10 p.m.-5 a.m.
Because of KIRO 7’s question, Seattle Department of Transportation officials investigated and issued the crew a citation for not following their TCP.
SDOT first told KIRO 7 the citation was $500, but it’s actually $250 since it’s the crew’s first violation. Future violations could double to $500 or more.
