To the joy of bakers, home cooks, and late-night snackers, a Costco favorite is back.
Kirkland Signature semi-sweet chocolate chips are once again available for purchase.
The chocolate chips were discontinued due to costs, according to a 2024 Food Network article.
“Cocoa costs have risen near 200% compared to last year, and this is impacting all items in this category, including branded items such as Nestle Toll House,” a Costco manager stated. “Members can expect to see the sell prices on these items rise in all retail as we approach Q3/Q4 and new contracts on Cocoa become effective.”
To keep up with Nestle, Costco would have had to raise the price of its chocolate chips from $14.99 to $16.99 per bag, compared to Nestle’s $15.48 per bag.
Costco semi-sweet chocolate chips return at original price
After a drop in cocoa prices, the 4.5-pound bag has returned at a price of $14.99 on Costco’s website, though warehouse prices may vary.
According to The Seattle Times, cocoa prices have fallen 70% from their high in 2024. The media outlet reported the chocolate chips selling for $11.99 in-store compared to Nestle’s $15.99.
Fans are ecstatic over the return, with Instagram user The Costco Mama posting, “I waited 2 long years for this to come back to Costco.”

The delicious chips are made with sugar, chocolate liquor, cocoa, butter, milkfat, soy lecithin, and natural flavors.
“Costco is committed to sourcing cocoa, whenever possible, through programs that focus on improving community infrastructure, farmer livelihoods, and education,” the bag reads. “For more information, please visit the Sustainability Commitment page on Costco.com.”
A recipe for old-fashioned chocolate chip cookies is also printed on the bag for customers looking to put them to work right away.
