Covington middle school student arrested for choking classmate

May 8, 2012, 4:34 AM | Updated: 6:20 am

An eighth grader at a Covington Middle School has been expelled for choking a friend in the hallway. The victim ended up at the hospital.

The 14-year-old was captured on a hallway surveillance video at Mattson Middle School putting his arms around a much smaller 13-year-old. In just seconds, the boy falls unconscious to the floor hitting his head.

The older boy says he was just messing around with his friend and didn’t mean to hurt him, but not only was he kicked out of school, he was arrested and charged with felony assault.

KING 5 reports he will be in juvenile detention until at least Wednesday.

The victim is going to be OK.

The district doesn’t believe this was a case of bullying or intentional violence. They believe the boys took fooling around too far.
