Homeowners shoot suspected burglars in Thurston County

Thurston County deputies are investigating a possible burglar who was shot during a confrontation on a resident’s property early Monday morning.

At 4:30 a.m., officers responded to the 1200 block of Oak Dr. SE after a call came in about two people trespassing, one of whom had been shot by the homeowner’s family.

When deputies arrived, they found a man in his 50s with a gunshot wound to his arm.

They told investigators that they had heard noises coming from the property and went to investigate.

Two family members saw two ATVs parked near several storage trailers and saw the suspected burglars whom they then confronted.

They say that there were two men who could be seen walking away from the trailers.

Deputies were told that one man fled into a nearby wooded area, and the other charged at one of the family members who was armed with a rifle.

The family member shot the burglary suspect in the arm, and the suspect was later taken to St. Peter’s Hospital for treatment.

Police eventually found the other suspect and who was then taken into custody uninjured.

Investigators said the property owner and family members cooperated with deputies on the investigation, which is ongoing.
