Dedo’s daily crime corner: Two shootings outside nightclubs leave 4 injured

Darren Dedo, KIRO Newsradio reporter, covers crime from the weekend and overnight in the Puget Sound region on the morning of July 18: Two shootings at nightclubs: one in Capitol Hill and one in Bellingham leave at least four injured, a man was found dead in the International District, and a catalytic converter theft gone south leaves two injured.
Two shot after fight outside Bellingham Nightclub
Shortly after midnight on Sunday, Bellingham police responded to reports of a shooting near a nightclub.
Police say two groups of people were fighting near the club when one man identified as Gawain Orcutt got a handgun from his car and shot a 42-year-old man in the foot.
He then fired at two others before fleeing the scene.
A second suspect in the argument also got a gun and fired at a crowd, hitting one 20-year-old man in the leg.
Orcutt was later apprehended by the Bellingham K-9 unit and charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Police are still working to identify the second shooter.
50 shots fired outside Capitol Hill nightclub
Police are investigating reports of a person firing 50 shots outside of a nightclub in Capitol Hill at 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
The shooting injured at least one man and caused thousands of dollars of damage to surrounding businesses.
When officers arrived at the scene of 1200 Pike Street, they saw dozens cowering behind cars, and when searching the area recovered 50 shell casings and a ghost gun.
Shortly after, a 35-year-old man arrived at Harborview Medical Center with a gunshot wound in his leg, telling staff that he had been injured at the shooting.
A 33-year-old man also arrived at HMC with a gunshot to his arm, but he refused to say where or when he was shot. Investigators are determining whether he was involved in this shooting.

Man found dead in the International District
At 2:54 p.m. police were called to Kobe Terrace Park in Chinatown-International District for a man suspected of overdosing after several people reported him slumped over on a bench.
The man appeared to be sleeping on the bench, but when officers tried to wake him up they found he was dead and had been shot.
Homicide detectives arrived at the scene and are investigating the incident.
Catalytic converter theft turned shootout in Newcastle
Sunday deputies report that three men drove through the Avalon Day Apartment complex in Newcastle planning to steal catalytic converters.
They were questioned by a neighbor who got suspicious of the men, but when he started to question the three men he was shot in the leg.
The victim then pulled out his own gun and returned fire, hitting at least one of the suspects and causing them to flee.
The man was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. Later that day a man with a gunshot wound turned up at a hospital nearby, and investigators are trying to determine if he was one of the suspects in the case.
