Defendant with history of pencil stabbings in trouble again

Feb 3, 2012, 5:07 AM | Updated: 7:04 am

The Snohomish County murder suspect who already attacked three of his own attorneys is in trouble again for another jailhouse assault.

Joshua Monson first made national news when he used a smuggled pencil during a hearing to stab his lawyer in the neck in May.

Two days later, he grabbed another smuggled pencil and stabbed his new lawyer in the neck.

Despite being restrained in a special chair and fitted with a shock collar in November, Monson grabbed his third lawyer’s pen a few months later and stabbed him in the head.

The Everett Herald reports Monson is now in trouble again. During a jail house meeting with yet another lawyer this week, he took advantage of the brief moment one hand was freed from restraints to sign some paperwork to punch a guard in the face.

Despite his antics, a judge has ruled the 28-year-old is competent to stand trial.
