Detectives investigating reports of more than 40 shots fired in Capitol Hill

An investigation is underway after Seattle police received reports of more than 40 shots being fired during a gun battle in Capitol Hill overnight Sunday.

Witnesses began calling 911 at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday to report that multiple people were involved in a gun battle near the intersection of Pine Street and Melrose Avenue.

Police quickly arrived at the scene and saw multiple people fleeing the area on foot and in vehicles.

Officers found almost 40 spent shell casings and spotted bullet damage to multiple vehicles and buildings in the area, but they found no victims.

Detectives and SPD’s Gun Violence Reduction Unit are now working to recover surveillance video that may have captured the incident from nearby business owners.
