Detectives trying to find stolen dog sold in drug deal

It’s been a tough month for Brodie, a lost dog that was stolen and then sold in a drug deal.

Brodie, a 6-year-old Boston Terrier and French Bulldog mix, went missing last month. His owner posted flyers around her Puyallup neighborhood and the an office manager found him at the Alderra Apartments.

Brodie’s situation was looking better, but Detective Ed Troyer told KIRO Radio another woman posing as the dog’s owner stole Brodie.

Sometime between October 27 and October 30, the suspect sold the dog to an unidentified person for drugs, possibly through the website offerupnow.com.

“We know who our suspect is,” Troyer said. “She’s in jail on another matter and she’s not being cooperative with us.”

Troyer said they have video and pictures of the woman taking the dog.

“Unfortunately, we don’t have the dog. And since this is absolutely none of the dog’s fault, we’re trying to get the dog back from whoever she traded the drugs for it and get it back to its rightful owner.”

Troyer said it would be a lot easier for whoever has the dog now to come forward rather than having deputies come find them with a stolen dog.

“You also have the issue of them trading for drugs, too. That might be a good reason for them not to give us a call. But what we want to do is just get that dog back to the rightful owner because we don’t know what environment that dog is in right now.”

Crimestoppers Tacoma/Pierce County is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest or charges filed.

Brodie was wearing a black collar with skull and crossbones on it at the time of the theft.
