Last week, a house in Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood slid off its foundations, and while the two residents were largely unharmed, one of their two dogs was found deceased, while the other was not located. On Thursday, that dog was found alive inside the home.

House in Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood slides off foundations after heavy rain

This came after family friend Remy Olivier passed by the house and heard a noise coming from inside.

“We’ve been coming every day, but this morning we heard some whining, … very faintly through a hole we drilled with a screwdriver,” he described to KIRO 7 TV.

Seattle Fire Department crews were called to the scene, and were able to successfully rescue the animal. The dog is reported to be in stable condition.

The house is located along Perkins Lane, and is believed to have slid from its foundations last week due to high levels of precipitation. That resulted in the top floor partially collapsing on top of the daylight basement. Initially, responders were able to rescue the residents of the home, both of whom were sent to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition.

This isn’t the first time a slide has damaged homes on Perkins Lane. Following a wet winter in 1996, a major slide destroyed five homes in the area, with one catching fire from an electrical short caused by the incident.
