Driver arrested in death of Seattle man dribbling soccer ball to Brazil

Police in Oregon have arrested a man in connection with the hit-and-run crash that killed a Seattle man dribbling a soccer ball from Washington to Brazil.
Richard Swanson, 42, had just begun his journey a week before when he was struck and killed along U.S. 101 May 14 outside Lincoln City.
Lincoln City Police Chief Keith Kilian told KIRO Radio they had arrested 52-year-old Scott Von Hiatt of Neskowin, Ore. in connection with Swanson’s death. He’s charged with criminally negligent homicide and held in the Lincoln County Jail on $50,000 bail. He’s scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
Swanson had planned to dribble a soccer ball to next year’s World Cup in Brazil to raise awareness for the One World Futbol charity, which provides balls to children in disadvantaged places whenever someone buys one of their own.
