Duke’s Seafood closes iconic Alki Beach location after 25 years

Duke’s Seafood in West Seattle is shuttering its doors after being a mainstay on Alki Beach for a quarter century.

Located at 2516 Alki Ave. SW, Duke’s Seafood announced the sale and closure of the location on Thursday, April 3, effective the same day.

“We absolutely loved creating memories for our loyal guests and neighbors at Duke’s on Alki and are extremely disappointed to have to do this, given the many challenges we were unable to overcome,” owners Duke and John Moscrip said in a prepared statement.

Why the Alki Beach location is closing

The owners cited multiple struggles they’ve had to overcome in order to stay afloat.

“As with many other businesses in West Seattle, Duke’s Alki has struggled to recover post-pandemic and with the lengthy West Seattle Bridge closure (30 months), forcing us to miss three full summers,” Duke and John Moscrip continued.

The closure comes after 25 years of business serving flaky fish and delicious chowder with waterfront views. The Alki Beach spot is the only Duke’s Seafood location closing, with the owners stating “this was a location-specific business decision.” Duke’s Seafood has six other locations in the Puget Sound region.

It is unknown who bought the restaurant, as of this reporting.

Duke Moscrip first opened Duke’s Seafood in 1977 after departing from Ray’s Boathouse, a seafood restaurant he co-owned and operated.
