Jenny Durkan is expected to take the oath of office to become Seattle’s 56th mayor on Tuesday. To commemorate the moment, she plans to go on tour.

“Throughout the campaign, I emphasized we must tackle our challenges and seize opportunities as One City,” Durkan said Monday. “Starting on my first day in office, I want everyone to be a part of creating meaningful change for our city. It will take all of us working together to build a progressive, innovative and inclusive city for the next generation. I know we are up to not just meeting our toughest challenges like homelessness and housing, but to build and create the opportunities that will continue to make Seattle the great city we love.”

To emphasize city-wide inclusion, Durkan has planned a series of appearances in a relatively short time on Tuesday. She’ll visit community and cultural centers, and end up at a Seattle brewery. The purpose of the tour is to “share her vision for the city,” according to the Durkan campaign.

All the new mayor’s stops will be on Tuesday after she takes the oath of office.

  • 3:00 p.m.: Ethiopian Community Center, 8323 Rainier Ave South, Seattle
  • 4:15 p.m.: Youngstown Cultural Arts Center, 4408 Delridge Way SW, Seattle
  • 5:45 p.m.: Wing Luke Museum, 719 South King Street, Seattle
  • 7 p.m.: Phinney Neighborhood Association, 6532 Phinney Ave. North, Seattle
  • 8 p.m.: Elliott Bay Public House and Brewery, 12537 Lake City Way NE, Seattle

Normally, Seattle’s mayor-elect would take office after the new year following an election. But due to Ed Murray’s early exit amid allegations of sexual abuse, the city has operated with temporary mayors since September. Durkan was slated to take over the position as mayor as soon as the election was certified.
