Earth Hour: Can you live without light for 60 minutes?

Can you turn out the lights Saturday night and live by candle for an hour?
Earth Hour, an international campaign to make a stand against climate change, asks people worldwide to turn off the lights for one hour. This year, it takes place from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. March 28.
People “are invited to turn off all non-essential lights, focus on conservation commitments for the rest of the year, and engage in conversations regarding environmental stewardship and the health of our planet,” according to Seattle City Light.
The Seattle utility plans to turn off its neon light at the South Service Center seen from the West Seattle Bridge.
Earth Hour was started by a branch of the World Wildlife Fund in Sydney, Australia eight years ago. It now involves 162 countries and 7,000 cities worldwide.
In years past, major international landmarks, including the Seattle Space Needle, have shut off lights for an hour: Rome’s Colosseum, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Brandenburg gate in Berlin, the Parthenon in Athens, the Petronas Twin Towers in Malaysia, and the London Eye.
While organizers are only asking for an hour of darkness and reflection, they’re hoping you stay committed to making a difference even after you turn the lights back on.
