Edmonds police officer charged with sex crime

An Edmonds police officer has been charged with having sex with a woman he had in custody.
Officer Daniel Lavely has been charged with custodial sexual misconduct after a six-month investigation. The 47-year-old officer is accused of having sex with a woman he had picked up for jaywalking and for an outstanding warrant.
The Herald reports the officer is charged with driving the woman to a deserted parking lot and having sex with her.
Even if the sex was consensual, it’s a crime for officers to have sex with people they are detaining.
Officer Lavely is also under investigation for allegedly molesting a young relative years ago while he was serving in the Navy. That case surfaced during this investigation.
He’s been on leave since May.
