Engineers, technical workers ready to vote on Boeing’s contract offer

Around 16,000 Boeing engineers and technical workers are preparing to vote on a new contract offer from the company.

Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) members will begin voting at noon on whether to approve the latest four-year contract.

The Bargaining Unit Councils for SPEEA’s Professional and Technical units both recommended that their members accept the company’s latest contract offer.

Representatives on both councils voted by the required 60% supermajorities to make the recommendations on Tuesday.

The offers “meet most of the needs of the members” by “winning gains for most priorities outlined at the outset of negotiations,” the council for the Professional Unit said in a statement.

The Technical Unit council agreed but added that union members should “examine both the advantages and limitations of the proposed agreement and determine whether it meets their expectations and priorities.”

The company sent the contract to SPEEA on Sept. 11, and details include a 10% guaranteed wage increase this year, a 4% increase next year, and a 6% annual wage pool from 2028 through 2030.

Union members have until Oct. 1 to approve the new contract. The current one expires on Oct. 6.

SPEEA, affiliated as IFPTE Local 2001, represents roughly 20,000 aerospace professionals across Boeing, including nearly 13,000 engineers in its Professional Unit and more than 4,000 analysts, designers, specialists, and technicians in its Technical Unit. While most covered employees are based in Washington state, the union also represents workers in Oregon, California, and Utah.
