In April, two men were arrested at the Pike Place Market after an altercation involving a hammer used as a weapon and a deliberate motor vehicle assault of a pedestrian. Thursday, one of those men pleaded not guilty to felony assault charges in King County Superior Court.

Seattle police arrest pair of drivers following road rage incident at Pike Place Market

Timothy “Temple” Stephenson’s charges stem from using a hammer to smash the back window of a car following a verbal altercation with another motorist. The prosecution’s office notes that, immediately following, the defendant returned to his car and accelerated into the motorist, allegedly deliberately swerving to strike, “taking out a café seating area in the process … with [the opposing motorist on the hood],” the charging documents read.

Stephenson then allegedly struck a pedestrian, “sending her flying onto the pavement.” The prosecutor notes that other pedestrians were milling about at the time, and the defendant only stopped upon crashing their vehicle.

The defendant has a criminal history in four states, including Washington, with scores of felonies in Colorado ranging from criminal impersonation to intimidation-stalking.
