People were evacuated after a natural gas leak Friday afternoon near Boeing Field. Puget Sound Energy secured the leak and worked to ventilate the area.

Fire officials said the natural gas leak was in the 7000 block of Airport Way South. There were dangerous levels of natural gas within a commercial building.

Boeing Field officials said crews had requested evacuation of all personnel within 1,000 feet of the address, which includes the terminal at the King County International Airport. The Boeing Field runway was also closed, with flight operations suspended while the scene was secured.

Airport Way South was closed between South Hardy and South Norfolk streets, as well as nearby BNSF tracks. No homes were located within the evacuation zone.

No injuries were reported.

King County said early reports suggested that contractors working in the airport terminal parking lot hit a natural gas line.
