Pets need temporary foster homes as Everett Animal Shelter evacuates amid flooding

The Everett Animal Shelter was forced to evacuate due to flooding throughout the surrounding area, leaving the shelter animals without a place to stay.

The animal shelter is actively searching for temporary foster families to house these pets.

“We are reaching out to our community for assistance with short-term, temporary housing for animals during this precautionary period,” the Everett Animal Shelter stated on social media. “Your support is essential in helping us keep the animals safe until the risk has passed.”

The Snohomish River, where the Everett Animal Shelter is located, has reached Flooding Phase 4, meaning residential areas could experience “dangerously high velocities and flooding of homes,” according to weather officials.

“The river will rise to 24.5 feet early this morning. It will rise above flood stage this afternoon to 33.7 feet late tomorrow evening,” officials wrote. “At 33.0 feet, the Snohomish River will cause severe near-record flooding. Flood waters will likely overtop levees, with major levee damage possible.”

Rising water levels in the Snohomish River adjacent to the shelter have put the shelter at significant risk of flooding, causing an evacuation for both the animals and staff.

The shelter is asking for members of the community to come to the shelter Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to check out an animal.

“Please have valid photo ID. We will provide food and supplies,” the shelter wrote. “Thank you for your continued dedication to the animals in our care. Your support during situations like this makes a tremendous difference.”
