Families of Marysville-Pilchuck victims reach settlement

The five families affected by the 2014 Marysville-Pilchuck High School shooting have reached an $18 million settlement with the school district.

The lawsuit against the Snohomish County School District came after it was determined that a substitute teacher failed to notify school officials of critical information before the shooting in the school’s cafeteria.

Four students were shot and killed in October of 2014 when Jaylen Fryberg opened fire. A fifth student was shot and survived.

A court decided the teacher’s information could have led to a less tragic outcome, putting liability on the district.

The money will come from the district’s insurance policy.

Another lawsuit against Fryberg’s father, who bought the gun used in the shootings, remains active.
