Fed child porn case targets University of Washington computer tech

Feb 5, 2013, 8:32 AM | Updated: 9:57 am

Federal investigators are targeting a University of Washington employee as part of a child pornography ring.

The computer technician’s name came up two years ago as the U.S. Postal Inspection Service prosecuted a movie production company accused of child exploitation.

KIRO TV reports the UW employee had 47 items allegedly purchased from the production company. Investigators seized hundreds of tapes, DVDs and other items from the man’s home.

A spokesman for the UW says the university was not aware of the case and had not been notified by federal investigators.

Norm Arkens tells KIRO TV the computer technician remains employed since the investigation is focused on the employee’s home, not his workplace. He says the UW would take action only if evidence indicated the use of university resources in any criminal activity.
