People trying to get off of the San Juan Islands and back to Anacortes were stranded for hours because the Washington State Ferries vessel Yakima has been out of service since Sunday morning.

WSF says the ferry has a bent prop and is out of service until further notice.

A passenger told KIRO 7 that he had been waiting to load onto the ferry at Orcas Island for eight hours, along with an estimated 100 other cars, because of the problem.

Mari Malcolm said on Sunday night that she had been waiting in her car at the terminal for nine hours. Malcom messaged KIRO 7 at 1:33 a.m. Monday and said she had made it to Anacortes on the ferry Hyak.

Passengers were supposed to be on their way back from Orcas Island at 6:45 a.m. Sunday.

A temporary schedule is in effect for Monday.

The following is from Washington State Ferries as of Sunday at 10:42 p.m.

The M/V Yakima is out of service until further notice due to a bent prop. The following temporary schedule is in effect for April 23. Sailing times have been adjusted to prioritize domestic travel in the San Juan Islands, canceling the international sailing to and from Sidney, British Columbia. Reservation holders that are not able to travel due to the service disruptions will not be charged the no show fee. Please note that these sailing times are approximations, and customers are advised to arrive early for their desired sailings:

The inter-island vessel will sail as scheduled. We apologize for the inconvenience this causes and thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to restore full service on this route. We will send updates regarding the status and duration of this temporary schedule as soon as possible.
