Fifty years for gang member convicted of killing 12-year-old

Mar 22, 2012, 2:04 PM | Updated: 3:20 pm

The man convicted of killing a 12-year-old Skyway boy who he
believed was a rival gang member has been sentenced to 50
years in prison.

Curtis J. Walker, 36, was convicted of first-degree murder
in the April 2010 shooting death of Alajawan Brown. Walker
shot Brown in the back outside of a 7-Eleven store as he got
off a Metro bus.

Prosecutors said it was a case of mistaken identify, and
Walker believed Brown was a Crip gang member who had shot at
one of his associates during an earlier confrontation.

Although Walker claimed he was not the trigger man, DNA
evidence recovered from the revolver used in the shooting
linked him to Brown’s murder.
