Redmond Fall City Road reopens after large fire consumes warehouse, destroys 15 cars in Ames Lake

Jun 3, 2026, 5:47 AM | Updated: 3:01 pm

Firefighters with Eastside Fire & Rescue extinguished a “large commercial fire” at a warehouse in Ames Lake early Wednesday morning.

The warehouse is located on the 27900 block of Redmond Fall City Road, also known as SR 202, which was shut down in both directions for hours Wednesday morning as crews battled the flames. By 10:30 a.m., Redmond Fall City Road reopened.

According to Eastside Fire & Rescue, two buildings and 15 cars were destroyed in the fire, as of this reporting. Crews are actively mopping up hot spots.

Explosions occurred during the fire, which was additionally risky because firefighters were concerned about chemicals in the building.

“There were multiple explosions, but that comes with car fires,” Eastside Fire & Rescue PIO Catherine Imboden told KIRO Newsradio. “When we have buildings with unknown substances in them, especially commercial fires, we just don’t know what’s inside of those buildings. In a building like this, could be fertilizer, could be gasoline, propane tanks. We’re just not sure what those are.”

The fire proved more challenging to extinguish because the scene had only one “really weak” fire hydrant.

“We had a weak hydrant on scene, so the water pressure wasn’t really what we needed to fight the fire,” Imboden said. “They came into an extremely engulfed building, and we ended up having to set up a tender relay, so they had to bring in water to the scene, which slows down a firefight.”

A tender relay is when one fire truck sucks the water from the pump, and firefighters then force the water to go into another truck or two to increase the pressure and boost the water flow onto the flames. The problem was that the slower pump may have delayed firefighters, allowing the fire to spread to a second building.

There is expected to be an extended closure on Redmond City Fall Road, even with the fire taken care of.

Eastside Fire & Rescue is investigating the cause of the fire. No injuries have been reported.
