Woman found dead, man taken to hospital after fire at Lynnwood apartment complex

A woman was found dead, and a man was taken to the hospital after a fire broke out at an apartment complex in Lynnwood.

Firefighters arrived just before midnight at the two-story apartment complex in the 16000 block of 4th Avenue West in Lynnwood, according to a news release from South County Fire, which provides fire and emergency services to residents of Brier, Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mill Creek, Mountlake Terrace, and unincorporated southwest Snohomish County.

When they arrived, firefighters saw flames spreading from the first to the second floor and upgraded the response to a second-alarm to bring in more resources.

Firefighters found a woman in her 30s who had died on the first floor of the building. A man in his 30s suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to Swedish Hospital in Mill Creek and later released. No other injuries were reported.

South County Fire noted more than 70 firefighters responded to the fire, including support from Everett Fire, Mukilteo Fire, and Bothell Fire.

Icy conditions on the roof made it more challenging to fight the fire, officials stated.

8 units impacted by Lynnwood fire, 20 people displaced

In total, eight apartment units were impacted by the fire, leaving 20 people displaced, including 10 children. Support 7 is assisting those affected.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office with assistance from South County Fire.

South County Fire encouraged residents to check their smoke alarms at home.

“Working smoke alarms can save lives by giving you more time to escape a fire,” officials wrote.

South County Fire noted replaceable batteries in smoke alarms should be changed once a year, and it’s important to replace all smoke alarms after 10 years.
