For the second time in a month, the Seattle Fire Department (SFD) responded to a blaze at a vacant building in South Seattle. The latest incident occurred early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters arrived at the scene on the 2400 block of S. Walker St. around 2:15 a.m. according to X. The battalion chief on site informed KOMO 4 that the area is well-known to the department and noted significant homeless activity outside the building upon their arrival.

Vacant building in South Seattle on fire for second time in a month

According to a report on X, the fire was brought under control by 2:40 a.m. and fully extinguished by 3:15 a.m. No injuries were reported.

Fires at vacant buildings in the area have become a growing concern. SFD has said in the past that it is actively monitoring such locations, especially those with frequent homeless activity. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and authorities are working to determine whether it was accidental or intentional.

Local residents have expressed their concerns about the safety of the neighborhood, urging city officials to take more proactive measures in securing vacant properties and providing support for the homeless population.
