Fireworks-related blast leaves three children with critical injuries

This year’s Fourth of July holiday resulted in a devastating tragedy in Kent.
Three kids suffered critical injuries after they tried to light an unexploded device on their home’s front porch on 2nd Avenue N. in Kent’s North Park neighborhood Sunday morning.
The three kids are all under 18. Investigators believe the kids found the unexploded device and tried to set it off.
“When they lit it, it evidently exploded right away,” Puget Sound Fire Spokesperson Pat Pawlak said.
The blast was so powerful that it damaged the front of the house and blew out multiple windows.
“This was actually a very tragic incident,” Pawlak added. “If you do find unfired fireworks, leave them be and contact 911.”
Medics transported all three children to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries.
