All lanes of northbound I-5 have reopened after a four-car collision blocked the freeway just north of SR 599 in Tukwila Thursday afternoon.

The incident was likely caused when a wheel came off a vehicle while it was traveling on the freeway. A second vehicle struck that wheel after it became loose on the road, according to the Washington State Patrol. The second vehicle then became disabled and was, in turn, struck by another car.

The driver and passenger of a gray Toyota are in critical condition after the collision. A driver of an SUV is in serious condition, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The Washington State Department of Transportation recommends that drivers find alternate routes around the scene.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
