Vili Fualaau is not separating from his wife Mary Kay Letourneau to start a pot business, according to the man’s attorney.

“Nothing to do with marijuana, not entering the marijuana business nor has he investigated that industry,” Whitney Gardner told KIRO Radio. “We don’t know where that report came from.”

The report initially came from Radar Online, which published an article stating Fualaau told the gossip website he was separating to start “Cigaweed,” a marijuana cigarette company.

The article implied that the separation is due to the fact that Letourneau’s legal past could hamper approval of the pot business. Letourneau made headlines in the ’90s after she pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree rape of a child — 12-year-old Vili Fualaau.

The marijuana story was picked up by other outlets. The story also alleged that the relationship between 33-year-old Fualaau and 55-year-old Letourneau was just fine and the separation doesn’t change their feelings for each other. All false, according to Gardner.

“My client has had no contact with Radar online and he denies any allegations in that report,” Gardner said.

“He appreciates people’s concerns, but at this time he’s asking that the public respect the privacy for his family as they work through issues related to separation,” she said.

Whitney said that they are looking into “legal remedies” in the wake of the story.
