Get in now: GET rates could go up after midnight

Parents investing early in their child’s college education may soon have to start shelling out a little more.
The state’s Guaranteed Education Tuition program lets you get tomorrow’s college education at today’s bargain prices. With tuition going up every year, it’s not as much of a bargain anymore. That has GET managers warning of a likely increase in prices in the fall.
“We have every indication from the state actuary that next year’s unit price will be higher,” says GET spokeswoman Susan Martensen.
Right now, you can get one unit of GET for $172, with 100 units guaranteed to be enough to pay for a year at the state’s most expensive public universities no matter when your child enters college. The investment can also be used at private colleges and universities and in schools in other states.
Two years ago a GET unit cost $117.
If you already have a GET account, you can keep buying units at the current price through the end of next month. If you were thinking of starting a new account you have until midnight Friday to be guaranteed the current rate.
