Granite Falls mayor arrested for domestic violence

Jul 10, 2012, 5:09 AM | Updated: 7:25 am

The mayor of rural Granite Falls has been arrested for
investigation of domestic violence after allegedly
shouting threats at a family member at Sea-Tac Airport.

Jail records confirm Sheikh Haroon Saleem was booked into
the King County Jail in Seattle at 11:54 Monday night.

Saleem was arrested by Port of Seattle police after
witnesses said he was shouting threats in the baggage
claim area of the airport. Officials said the dispute did
not involve any physical contact, according to KOMO TV.

It’s just the latest trouble for Saleem. The landmark
Timberline Cafe he owned and operated was shut down in May
and he was evicted for failing to pay rent for more than a
year, according to the Everett Herald.

“He just refused to pay rent,” landlord Craig Ohm told the
Herald. “He didn’t feel he needed to pay anymore. His
words
to me were that he figured he paid enough to me and he
told
me if I didn’t like that I could buy him out or I could
take
him to court. He gave me two options.”

Granite Falls is a small town of 3,400 in Snohomish County
northeast of Everett.
