Hazmat team responds to UW dorm after several report feeling sick

Several people at a University of Washington residence hall reported feeling sick on Sunday afternoon, prompting a hazmat response.

“One of the workers walked into one of the walk-in freezers and said that they smelled something funny and then a few minutes later several workers in the area started feeling light-headed and nauseous,” says Kyle Moore with the Seattle Fire Department.

KIRO TV reports the residence hall was evacuated for about two hours while crews investigated.

Moore says they found no hazardous materials leak and the people who initially said they felt sick later said they felt better.

The cause of why the people were sick is unknown at this time, and the incident is still under investigation.
