Helicopter skydiver missing near Mount Si

Jan 3, 2013, 4:11 PM | Updated: 4:17 pm

The King County Sheriff’s Office says a skydiver has been reported missing in the Cascade foothills east of Seattle.

Sgt. Cindi West says search and rescue teams are in route. The helicopter pilot reported that the skydiver had made a jump from about 2,000 feet near Mount Si on Thursday afternoon, but never showed up at the landing site.

“A number of individuals had jumped out to skydive near the Mount Si area. Apparently one of the skydivers did not show up at the landing zone,” says West.

The pilot didn’t know whether the skydiver’s parachute had opened.

West says a search is underway.

“At this time we have a bunch of search and rescue crews on the way. Our helicopter is on the way. We’re going to search. Hopefully we find him waiting for us.”

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
