A homeless man was found dead early Saturday morning after a tent fire broke out in an encampment in the Haller Lake neighborhood, prompting an investigation by Seattle Police and Fire.

Seattle police received reports around 7:12 a.m. of a tent on fire with someone inside near the intersection of 135th Street and Stone Avenue North. When officers arrived, they discovered a burned tent and a deceased individual inside.

The Seattle Fire Department responded shortly after and confirmed the man’s death at the scene.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has taken custody of the victim’s body and will determine the cause of death. Police have not yet released the man’s identity.

Seattle Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call 911 or the SPD Non-Emergency Line at 206-625-5011.
