A 22-year-old native of Honduras who is believed to be in the county illegally has been charged in a fatal stabbing outside a Belltown nightclub.

Prosecutors have charged Hever Zuniga-Guzman with second-degree murder in the Oct. 26 stabbing death of 21-year-old Faustino Flores Cervantes.

According to court documents, Cervantes suffered a single stab wound that entered his stomach with “such force that it caused a defect in his spine.”

Witnesses say the two men were at Tia Lou’s nightclub near First Avenue and Bell Street when they got into an altercation outside the club. After the fight was broken up, Zuniga-Guzman and a group of friends allegedly returned to a nearby lot where Cervantes had parked.

“Zuniga-Guzman admitted to detectives that he was in the initial fight outside of Tia Lou’s and that he was present during the second confrontation in the parking lot,” according to court documents. “Zuniga-Guzman further admitted to arming himself with a weapon in the parking lot episode, but he denied using a knife.”

Zuniga-Guzman implicated a friend in the stabbing, according to detectives, who are in the process of interviewing others who may have been involved.

Zuniga-Guzman is being held on $1 million bail.

Prosecutors fear he will attempt to leave the country should he be released.
