Houston player shouts gay slur at Sounders ball boy

A Seattle Sounders FC ball boy was called a gay slur by an opposing Houston Dynamo player during Friday’s match at CenturyLink Field.

Microphones from the NBC Sports Network’s broadcast picked up the gay slur during a throw-in seven minutes into the match. The Dynamo player, midfielder Colin Clark, called the Sounders ball boy a “fag” because the boy didn’t give him the ball in a timely manner.

Clark later apologized for using the slur on his Twitter account.

“I’d like to offer a sincere apology to everyone who watched the game, especially the ball boy for whom I used awful language towards,” Clark said. “I didn’t mean to disrespect anyone and am sorry for letting my emotions get the best of me. It’s not who I am and it won’t happen again.”

Major League Soccer is investigating the incident to determine if any disciplinary action is necessary.
