How you can help families, victims of Marysville-Pilchuck shooting

In the wake of Friday’s deadly shooting at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, a number of fundraising sites have been established to help the victims and family members of the teens.

One gofundme.com site will benefit the family of Zoe Galasso, 14, one of two girls shot by friend and classmate Jaylen Fryberg.

Corey Williams, 37, of Lake Stevens tells MyNorthwest.com the family is devastated.

“I was trying to find a way to show people care,” he says. “Nobody could ever anticipate something like this happening. There are going to be expenses, whether it’s funeral costs or missing work. It’s exactly what we need to do.”

As of Monday afternoon, the page had raised over $18,000, far surpassing Williams’ goal of $10,000.

“They (the family) are extremely thankful. I know it means the world to them,” he says.

Another gofundme.com page has been established to help the family of Gia Soriano, 14, who died Sunday night at Providence Regional Medical Center.

“Any bit of help can make a difference, even if it’s just a message or a prayer,” writes fund creator Reana Loveman. “100% of the proceeds go directly to the Soriano family.”

A fundraiser has also been established for Andrew Fryberg, 15, who remains in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

“Andrew is my cousin and one of my best friends,” writes fund creator Alex Johnston. “Please join me in helping his family over the coming days as they stay by his side as he heals from this heartbreaking tragedy. All donations will be given to his family to cover expenses from this tragedy.”

Donations are also being accepted to help the family ofShaylee Chuckulnaskit, the 14-year-old clinging to life in critical condition at Providence Medical Center.

“The family is trying to help Shay fight. Every day, every minute counts and we need your help. Your donation will help her parents continue this fight as she is in critical care and needs lots of medical attention and support,” writes fund creator Stacy Bazan.

A fundraising page has also been set up for Megan Silberberger, the first-year teacher credited with confronting the teen gunman.

“Her act of heroism undoubtably [sic] saved children’s lives,” writes Gary Hale, who established the gofundme page. “She has obviously been shaken up by this event, and she should be rewarded for her bravery. Lets show this teacher that we appreciate what she does for our children on a daily basis, and what she did for those children on the horrible day. She is going through a lot and financials should not be one of her worries right now.”

Nate Hatch, 14, has shown improvement, though he remained in satisfactory condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle Monday.

CrossFit Marysville (CFM) is holding a benefit workout on Saturday, November 1 at 1 p.m., along with a raffle and silent auction, with all proceeds donated to victims’ families.

CFM was directly affected by the events of Friday, as the daughter of our former coaches lost her life in the shooting. Additionally, CFM is owned, and operated by Marysville firefighters, and is frequented by fellow firefighters, paramedics, law enforcement officers and teachers in the Marysville School District. Many who responded to the incident and know the victims and their families personally, are members and part of the CrossFit Marysville community.

CFM has also established a fund for the victims’ families. Donations can be made at www.crossfitmarysville.com. For more information, contact Noah Pester at 425-280-4629
