Husband of UW shooting suspect testifies in court

Five weeks into the trial, Mark Hokoana took the stand on Tuesday to defend himself and his wife.

Hokoana, 31, is on trial for assault after using pepper spray during a confrontation with Antifa protesters at the University of Washington on Inauguration Day.

His wife, Elizabeth Hokoana is on trial for first degree assault for shooting Antifa protester Joshua Dukes.

2 taken into custody, released after UW shooting

While the prosecution described Hokoana as an instigator, the defense presented him as a protector.

They say he used pepper spray to stop an attack on a stranger.

KIRO 7 reporter Gary Horcher was there when the shooting happened on Jan. 20, 2017.
