Initiative I-940 is leading in early results in Washington.

Early voting results indicate that I-940 is leading by a margin of 59 percent to 40 percent.

The legislation would require mandatory, standardized de-escalation training for all law enforcement in Washington, and would lower the bar for determining evil intent when deadly force is used by officers.

In the run-up to Election Day, a line in the sand was drawn between those lobbying for more oversight of law enforcement, and people who believe that these measures would only serve to make the world a more dangerous place for police officers.

Its main opposition has been law enforcement agencies and police unions, that have argued that it would lead to hesitation in life or death situations that police officers simply cannot afford.
