Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrests have skyrocketed in Washington state, arresting at least 275 individuals in June alone.

That is more than double the monthly averages seen in years prior. June’s arrest numbers mark a spike from the 84 to 137 arrests typically recorded monthly from January through May, according to internal ICE records obtained by the Deportation Data Project at UC Berkeley and reported by KING 5.

ICE arrests in Washington surge, doubled monthly average amid national rise

This increase is comparable to national ICE arrest trends. Since July, approximately 56,945 people have been held in ICE custody nationwide, a 15,000-person increase since the beginning of the year. Data shows that more than 70% of those detained had no prior criminal convictions.

While ICE averaged 1,224 arrests per day in June, daily arrest rates dropped to roughly 990 through most of July.

Despite the slowdown, deportations rose, with ICE carrying out an average of 84 more removals per day in July compared to the previous month, according to the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) and KING 5.
