As thousands in Minnesota brave subzero temperatures to protest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Seattle-area residents are staging rallies of their own.

Jan. 23 is being called the National Day of Solidarity with Minnesota. At least 10 “ICE Out For Good – MN Solidarity Day of Action” protests took place across western Washington Friday.

Protests were underway in Auburn, Bainbridge Island, Bremerton, Everett, Gig Harbor, Issaquah, Lynnwood, Marysville, Tukwila, Duvall, Seattle, and SeaTac. Another started at 6 p.m. in downtown Seattle at 915 2nd Avenue.

‘ICE Out For Good’ calls for nationwide support

“ICE Out For Good” started after Renee Good was killed by an ICE officer in Minneapolis, sparking outrage throughout the U.S.

On Friday, organizers called for Minnesotans to come together for a statewide day of “non-violent action and reflection,” according to the group’s website.

“No work, no school, no shopping — only community, conscience, and collective action,” organizers wrote.

Those who live outside of Minnesota were urged to still participate by organizing or attending a non-violent solidarity event, “demanding corporations stand up to ICE, and calling on Congress to act now to rein in ICE,” according to the organization’s website.

100 clergy arrested Friday at Minnesota airport

The Associated Press reported around 100 clergy demonstrating against ICE were arrested Friday at Minnesota’s largest airport.

The clergy were issued misdemeanor citations of trespassing and failure to comply with a peace officer and were then released, Metropolitan Airports Commission spokesman Jeff Lea told the media outlet. Rev. Mariah Furness Tollgaard of Hamline Church in St. Paul said the police ordered them to leave, but she and others decided to stay to show support for migrants.

The Associated Press noted the protests are part of a broader movement against President Donald Trump’s increased immigration enforcement across the state.

More protests are expected to follow in western Washington. On Saturday, several “Abolish ICE – Justice For Good” protests are scheduled in the area, including in Seattle, Renton, and Lynnwood.
