Idaho runaway found hiding at Mason County home

A missing teen from Idaho was found in Mason County by the Moscow Police Department earlier this week.
After receiving a tip that the missing teen could be in the area, patrol deputies learned the juvenile was at a residence in the county. After a search on Dec. 22, they located the juvenile hiding on a property.
“The juvenile was taken into protective custody and, per state law (RCW 13.32A.050), was placed with CPS [child protective services] until their parents arrived to take custody,” the Moscow Police Department stated.
A person on the property with the teen was arrested for first-degree custodial interference. The individual also had unassociated arrest warrants.
“There were numerous Facebook posting about this juvenile, we thank the community for allowing us to work on this case and acknowledging the restrictions law enforcement has when working these types of cases,” the department continued in its statement.
The Moscow Police Department reminded the public that running away is not a criminal offense under Washington State Law; it is a “status” offense.
