Inslee, Ferguson continue to threaten lawsuit over Trump border wall

Washington State Governor Jay Inslee and State Attorney General Bob Ferguson issued a joint statement Tuesday, speaking out against President Trump’s proposed border wall.

“We remain adamant that Washington state will not help subsidize President Trump’s unlawful and unconstitutional ‘emergency’ declaration to build his wall,” the statement reads.

Back in February, Ferguson threatened legal action should the construction of Trump’s border wall harm the state of Washington in any way, and that his legal team “has been reviewing this issue for some time.”

Tuesday’s joint statement with Gov. Inslee builds on that, noting that “if a final decision is made to redirect funds from Washington projects to fund the president’s border wall, we will file a lawsuit.”

It goes on to state that the complaint has already been drafted and is ready to file.

This comes on the heels of a list of projects released by the Pentagon that could potentially be delayed to free up money for the wall project. A pair of Washington state projects are on that list, including an $89 million pier and maintenance facility at Naval Base Kitsap, and a $23 million maintenance installation at an Army training center in Yakima.

In total, Ferguson has filed 34 lawsuits against the Trump Administration for a variety of alleged violations, ranging from ceiling fans to coal miner rights.

“I’m disappointed, but not surprised, to see the president is once again exceeding his authority in violation of the Constitution,” Ferguson said back in February.
