Renton police said a fight that led to a shooting Wednesday night in Liberty Park was set up and intentional.
Witnesses told police that two groups of people decided to meet in the parking lot at Liberty Park to watch a fight between two young women.
“At some point during that fistfight, a male attempted to intercede in that fight,” Renton Police Detective Robert Onishi told KIRO Radio. “Another male from the other group apparently pulled a gun and pistol-whipped that male.”
Someone else pulled a gun, and both started firing. “We recovered eight shell casings on the pavement there,” said Detective Onishi.
A 20-year-old woman in one of the groups was hit in the crossfire. She was shot once in the stomach and rushed to Harborview Medical Center where she died of her injuries.
Police are hoping more witnesses will come forward with more information.
The incident is not considered gang related.
