Intruder stabbed to death at North Bend home identified

The King County Medical Examiner has identified a man who police say broke into a North Bend home on Monday and then was stabbed to death by the homeowners.
The King County Sheriff’s Office believes Kenneth Boonstra, 48, is the same man who broke into the home 12 hours earlier and assaulted and robbed the victim. However, detectives are waiting for a DNA test for positive confirmation. Results could take weeks.
Detectives say Boonstra, of North Bend, does not have a criminal history.
The residents were awakened about 2 a.m. Monday by a barking dog, according to detectives. A man and wife, baby, and mother-in-law were inside the home. The man who got up to tend to the dogs found the intruder in the home and got into a fight with the suspect.
“Apparently he got into quite a physical struggle with the subject and at some point the wife got involved to help,” says King County Sheriff Sgt. Cindi West.
Authorities believe the wife fatally stabbed the intruder.
Duct tape was recovered from the scene, but detectives say it’s not clear yet if the suspect brought the tape or if it belonged to the homeowners.
West says the family is upset after the struggle and is requesting time to process what has happened.
