Pierce County Sheriff Ed Troyer had to post $100,000 bail to stay out of jail today as he awaits trial for charges of false reporting.

A Pierce County District Court judge called Sheriff Ed Troyer a “substantial danger to the community.”

Pierce County Sheriff Ed Troyer says he’ll fight AG’s misdemeanor charges

KIRO 7 TV reports that this all began last year, when Troyer called 911 on Sedrick Altheimer, a newspaper carrier in his neighborhood. Troyer claimed Altheimer was threatening to kill him.

Troyer was subsequently charged with two misdemeanors, false reporting and making a false statement to a civil servant, with a trial date set for July 11.

Last month, a judge ordered Troyer to stay 1,000 feet away from Altheimer, after Altheimer claimed Troyer had been following him. The sheriff denies this.
