Kansas City Chiefs fans trying to reclaim noise record from Seattle Seahawks fans

Sep 29, 2014, 6:04 AM | Updated: 10:03 am

Seahawks fans will be keeping a close eye and ear on Kansas City Monday night, as Chiefs fans try again to take back the world record for the noisiest stadium from Seattle.

It’s been a back and forth battle for more than a year. Seahawks fans set the Guinness World Record for the loudest stadium crowd Sept. 15, 2013 at CenturyLink Field, posting an ear-splitting 136.6 decibels during a dominating win over the 49ers.

Chiefs fans wrested the record back just one month later, raising the volume at Arrowhead Stadium to 137.5 decibels in a win over the Oakland Raiders.

But the 12th Man took it to a new level on Dec. 2, registering a 137.6 decibel level in a 34-7 shellacking of the Saints on “Monday Night Football”.

Just how loud are we talking? The 137.6 decibels fans hit is equivalent to a military jet taking off from an aircraft carrier.

While Kansas City’s effort is being led by fans, the team is fully behind it, producing a slick video and pushing it on social media. The team has signed up 3M to provide free earplugs to fans to protect their ears.

The Chiefs say an official from Guinness will be at Arrowhead Monday night as fans there try to top the mark set in Seattle. They’ll get three official attempts.
